NDIS Changes July 2026
NDIS changes that started on 1 July 2026 are focused on Supported Independent Living (SIL), provider regulation, and quality standards.
1. Mandatory registration for SIL providers (biggest change)
From 1 July 2026, any provider delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission or be in the official transition process. This is intended to improve participant safety and the quality of SIL services.
For existing unregistered SIL providers:
- They must apply for registration by 1 October 2026 to continue delivering SIL.
- Providers that do not apply or are refused registration cannot continue providing SIL supports.
2. New SIL Practice Standards
New Supported Independent Living Practice Standards came into effect on 1 July 2026. These standards place greater emphasis on:
- Participant choice and control.
- Human rights and dignity.
- Safety in shared living arrangements.
- Individualised support.
- Stronger governance and provider accountability.
3. Changes to SIL claiming and payments
The National Disability Insurance Agency introduced:
- New SIL claim codes.
- Updated claiming requirements.
- Revised eligibility rules for SIL payments. Providers need to ensure claims comply with the new requirements.
4. New registration group for SIL
A new registration group, 0138 – Assistance with Supported Independent Living, has been introduced. Providers must register under this category to deliver SIL services.
5. Pricing updates
The 2026–27 Annual Pricing Review introduced updated NDIS pricing from 1 July 2026. Providers should review service agreements because participants must agree to any price changes before they are applied.
What this means for participants
If you’re an NDIS participant receiving SIL:
- You can continue receiving supports.
- Your provider must meet the new registration and quality requirements.
- You should not lose SIL simply because of these reforms, but if your provider is unregistered, they must transition to registration within the required timeframe.
